Field borders can be mapped in field using GPS or digitized on a computer using a very accurate air photo. Tile lines are mapped in field using GPS and if a tile line breaks the GPS can find the tile line within a ten foot or less accuracy.
GPS Mapping (Field Borders, Tile Lines)
January 22nd, 2011GPS Soil Sampling
January 22nd, 2011Geo-referenced soil sampling is done by point sampling in a field to achieve repeatability. To determine where the points are located the consultant can use three methods: grid, soil type, and by yield from a yield monitor. Points can be placed on a 1, 2.5, 5 and 10 acre basis.
Nutrient Management Planning
January 22nd, 2011Using the Snap-Plus program the plan will give a P Index, Soil Loss and a P2O 5 balance to meet the 590 and 243 standards. But the plan doesn’t stop there it includes many more things. The Emergency Response Plan has grower specific contact numbers to quickly respond to an emergency. Maps of plat, soils, manure setback/restriction, topographical and watershed are included. Specific field and soil type data. Lab information like the manure tests, soil tests and feed tests can be stored here for a quick reference. Finally, a record keeping section allows the grower to document facility, manure and weather logs. All of this is available neatly sectioned in a binder or available electronic on a CD to print when you need it.
